Forbidden Drive is a **day outing** — **5.3 miles** of multi-use gravel, average grade about **3%**, open dawn to dusk, designated-lot parking **free**. The color trails that peel off it are dirt, rock, and wet leaves when September turns. You do not need overnight kit. You need water, layers, and enough sense to leave the tent in the closet. Cell can be **spotty** in the gorge. Start at **Valley Green Inn** (center of the park). Park only in designated lots — **no parking** on Livezey Lane or Kitchen’s Lane. Lots fill; use Friends of the Wissahickon map alternates, or roll to Valley Forge (**18 miles** NW of Philly): **$0** entrance, grounds **7 a.m. to dark**, **over 35 miles** of trails, and the Joseph Plumb Martin **5-mile** paved inner loop. Pets: leash **≤6 ft**. Swimming in creeks: **prohibited**.
